Item-Writing Workshop at the Society of American Archivists’ Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA

The Academy of Certified Archivists invites members to participate in a three-hour, Item-Writing Workshop being held Thursday, August 4 at the Society of American Archivists’ Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA. Participants will learn the procedures governing test development and will have the opportunity to write and review questions of their own. Questions resulting from the workshop will be reviewed by the Exam Development Committee for potential addition to the ACA item bank. The questions you create could appear on a future exam!

 This year’s item-writing workshop will focus on digital preservation policy. Workshop participants are encouraged to use the following readings for reference:

New “Pick Your Site” Locations added for August 3rd, 2016 Exam

Ann Arbor (MI), Denver (CO), Honolulu (HI), Little Rock (AR), New York (NY), Raleigh (NC), San Antonio (TX), Tampa (FL), and Waco (TX) have all been approved as sites for the August 3 examination.

 These newly added cities join Philadelphia (PA) and Syracuse (NY) as “Pick Your Site” locations; Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Seattle were previously announced as pre-determined locations for the 2016 examination.  There are now 17 locations for the 2016 examination.

 With the closing of the Early Bird registration period on February 15, cities now need five candidates to qualify as “Pick Your Site” locations.  Houston and Washington (DC) have two candidates, while Albany (NY), Boise (ID), Buffalo, Charleston (SC), Davenport (IA), Kansas City, Montgomery (AL), New Orleans, Sacramento, St. Louis, Tucson, and Ventura/Thousand Oaks (CA) each have one.

 The deadline for applying for the examination is May 15.

Philadelphia named for Pick-Your-Site Location, 2016

Philadelphia will be an exam site for the 2016 examination, thanks to support from Early Bird registrants.  Philadelphia joins predetermined sites Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Seattle as locations for the 2016 examination.

“Pick Your Site” locations need 5 or more candidates to be selected, but, only 3 candidates need to choose a “Pick Your Site” in the Early Bird registration process.

 Other locations that Early Bird candidates have listed as “Pick Your Site” locations are New York, San Antonio, and Tampa (two candidates each); and Albany (NY), Boise, Buffalo, Charleston (SC), Davenport (IA), Honolulu, Little Rock, Montgomery (AL), New Orleans, St. Louis, Ventura/Thousand Oaks (CA), and Washington (DC) (one candidate each).
