In 1999, the Academy repeated a survey it first performed in 1989 and compared the results.

The Academy of Certified Archivists celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 1999. In order to look back at the Academy’s accomplishments and look forward to further the Academy’s goals to certify archivists, ensure professional archival standards, and promote the employment of certified archivists, the board repeated a survey of members that was originally performed in 1989 when certification was by petition. By 1999, certification had been solely by examination for 9 years and the recertification process was in place.

The Academy compared the 1999 and 1989 survey data and presented its findings at the 1999 Society of American Archivists Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
