Note: the numbers do not match exactly the numbers in slide 17 due to the way respondents did or did not answer the questions. The results were reported in averages based on 1998 annual income.

In 1999, corporate archivists reported the highest average salaries: $50,933 per year. government was close to the highest at $49,800 per year. "other", which included medical centers and consultants, averaged $49,000. Academia averaged $42,600; libraries and museums averaged $38,461; religious archives averaged $37,250; historical societies averaged $36,400 and private repositories averaged $28,500.

Government and corporate archivists gained 17-20% in ten years, while in academia, gains were very dramatic up 29% over 1989 salaries.

In 1989, private repositories reported the lowest salaries averaging $26,000. Not only do they remain the lowest average salaries, but over ten years their salaries barely moved upwards.
