The 1999 survey confirmed that paper-based textual records were still the primary type of records that archivists were handling ­ 80% worked primarily with paper-based textual records. 5% of respondents worked with all types of materials. 2% worked primarily with electronic records.

In 1989, 76% answered that they worked primarily with paper-based textual records.
