In 1999, 402 respondents answered this question. 153, or 38%, were
employed by a college or university; 24.37% worked for government archives
(local, state and Federal combined); and 10% worked in religious
institutions. 7.5% were employed in corporate archives; 5.5% worked in
museums; and 4.5% worked in historical societies (state and regional
combined). 4% were employed in public libraries; 2.5% worked in private
manuscript or archival repositories; and 3.2% reported working
"other" types of institutions.
