In 1999, a minimum of a master's degree was required in order to
qualify to sit for the examination. Through a petition process, a person
with a bachelor's degree and seven years of work experience was permitted
to sit for the exam. In 1999, 8.3% had a bachelor's degree; 74% had a
master's and 17% had a doctorate. Two respondents answered
"Other" without giving specifics and 2 gave no response.
Of the master's degrees, 150 had the MA, 6 had an MBA, 80 had the MLS
or equivalent, and 94 had a double master's with the MLS as one of those.
Of the total respondents, 60% did not have the MLS. 18% had the MLS only
and 21% had the MLS/MA double master's.
In 1989, a minimum of a bachelor's degree was required in order to
qualify for certification by petition. At that time, 10% had the
bachelor's, 70% had the master's degree and 18% had a Ph.D.
