Conclusion

Certification will probably not be accepted by all educators, archivists or employing institutions as a required, or even desirable, qualification. The Academy, will however, continue its outreach to these groups, listen to what the opposition is saying, why they are saying it, and work to overcome it.

The Academy remains convinced that certification is vital to validating the archivist as a professional. The survey provided the confirmation that the Academy is growing. Archivists are taking the test in larger numbers every year and certified archivists are recertifying both by petition and by examination. The future of the Academy is bright for the next ten years of growth, change and opportunity.
