Academy members elect four officers and four regents to two-year terms. The person elected president-elect serves one year as vice-president, one year as president, and a third year as immediate past president/regent for nominations. Together, the officers and regents comprise the Board of Regents, which governs the Academy. The ACA Advisory Board, composed of past presidents, provides informal guidance and institutional knowledge to the President and Board. Various other volunteers round out the Academy's governance through service on committees, the newsletter, website, and exhibit curation.
