It is my privilege to welcome you to the Academy of Certified Archivists website. The ACA celebrated its twentieth anniversary and welcomed our 1,000th member this past August. Our members are proud of these accomplishments. It is my hope that ACA will welcome our 2,000th member on the eve of our thirtieth anniversary.
The following pages provide the necessary information for those seeking to become a certified archivist. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require additional information. You can also contact the Academy’s ombudsman Pam Hackbart-Dean, CA, with any questions about the application and examination process. Academy members can contact the officers with their inquiries about the recertification process.
Archival certification demonstrates a commitment to oneself and to the profession. It is my hope that you will become a member of the Academy. The CA is not given freely but earned. Once attained it is an achievement in which you can take pride.
The CA is not a dormant credential. Certified Archivists must continue to demonstrate a commitment to the profession through continued education, professional participation, scholarship and active employment.
Archival certification is not a destination but a journey throughout an archivist’s career. I look forward to you making a commitment to yourself and the profession by becoming a Certified Archivist.
